Comfortable win for AOC

HYDERABAD: AOC Centre scored a 3-0 win over City College Old Boys in the SAAP Budweiser Premier League football championship at the Gymkhana grounds, here on Monday.

The Armymen took lead in the 34th minute through Ansari and AOC made it 2-0 with D. K. Mahato scoring just before the break, while Ansari scored the third goal.

Tuesday is a rest day.

Volleyball tournament

The Andhra Pradesh Postal Circle will host the 24th all-India departmental volleyball tournament at the Lal Bahadur Stadium from December 12 to 15.

Defending champion Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Delhi and Jharkhand will vie for honours.

The teams have been split into four groups and the top two from each group will qualify for the knock-out phase.

Softball selections

The Hyderabad District School Games Federation will organise selection trials for boys and girls (under-19) on December 11 from 9. 30 a.m. at the Government Junior College (Maredpally) to pick the district team for the 54th SGF State-level softball championship to be held in Kadapa from December 13 to 15. South Zone takes honours

South Zone secured first innings-lead over Central Zone in the ACA inter-zone women’s tournament two-day round-robin league match which ended in a draw at Kakinada on Monday.

The scores: South Zone 263 for three in 90 overs and 52 for four in 24 overs drew with Central Zone 208 in 86.4 overs (S. Ramadevi 51, N.S.T. Rama Tulasi 40, J. Durga Bhavani 31, T. Shilpa Chandran four for 64).

Seven-a-side football

The Rajiv Gandhi Memorial all-India seven-a-side football tournament will be conducted in Visakhapatnam from December 28.

Twenty men and 12 women’s teams are expected to take part.

Lenin, Yogitha for Asian meet

Indian Railways archer Cherukuri Lenin and Vijayawada’s Chennupati Yogitha will represent India in the first Asian Compound championship to be held at Yangon (Myanmar) from December 10 to 14, according to Krishna District Archery Association president Ch. Satyanarayana here on Monday.
