Chauhan to take oath on Friday
A day after: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan who is set to lead the State again visits former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at his residence in New Delhi on Tuesday.
New Delhi: Announcing that he will take oath on Friday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on Tuesday said he would carry on working for farmers, weaker sections and developing infrastructure in the State.
The BJP Legislature Party will meet in Bhopal on Wednesday to complete the formality of naming Mr. Chauhan for the post of chief minister. Senior leader M. Venkaiah Naidu and Anant Kumar will represent the Central unit of the party in the meeting.
Mr. Chauhan said his main priorities include empowerment of women through various government schemes, governance aimed at the weaker sections, and improving health, education and the internal security situation in Madhya Pradesh.
He gave credit of the party’s victory to the unity and hard work of the organisation.
The chief minister was here to meet and seek blessings of senior BJP leaders Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L. K. Advani, M. Venkaiah Naidu and Rajnath Singh.
Mr. Naidu told reporters that the BJP fought anti-incumbency in Madhya Pradesh by denying ticket to 61 sitting MLAs who were not likely to win. “Some were ruled out due to delimitation too,” he said.
The former BJP president, who was election in-charge of MP, said those who had rebelled against the party were convinced that the decision to deny them the party ticket was taken keeping the welfare of the organisation in mind.
He praised Mr. Chauhan for the good work done by his government.
Reacting to media reports that the BJP had won less seats this time in comparison to the 173 seats it won in 2003, he said: “In 2003, there was strong anti-incumbency against the ten-year rule of Digvijay Singh’s government.”
