Revenue subdivision at Ranni under consideration: Rajendran

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government is studying the feasibility of setting up a separate revenue subdivision headquartered at Ranni to serve Sabarimala and the places that function as the base camps for pilgrims visiting Sabarimala, Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran told the Assembly on Wednesday.

He was replying to a submission from Raju Abraham, MLA, said that places such as Seethathode and Chittar in Pathanamthitta district were so far away from Thiruvalla and Adoor, the nearest existing revenue subdivision headquarters, that there was a strong case for having a new revenue subdivision with Ranni as the headquarters.

The Land Revenue Commissioner had conducted a study on all such demands for setting up new revenue subdivisions in the State. His report was now with the government. The government would take action on the report after considering all the factors involved, Mr. Rajendran said.

Cultural Affairs Minister M.A. Baby, answering a submission from M.A. Wahid, MLA, said the government would set up an appropriate memorial in Thiruvananthapuram for the sage Chattambi Swami.

Mr. Wahid’s demand was that the government should take over a specific piece of land (in the city) believed to have been the birth place of the sage for setting up the memorial.

A case relating to this piece of land was now before the court, he added.
