Panel on IPRs next week

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The next meeting of the Cabinet would take a decision on forming the Supervisory Council for Intellectual Properties (SCIP), Law Minister M. Vijayakumar told the Assembly on Thursday.

Replying to a submission by V.D. Satheesan (Congress), the Law Minister said the government would bring committees under different departments relating to intellectual property rights (IPRs) under the SCIP once it was formed. It had already amended the rules of business designating the Law Department as the department that would administer the policy on intellectual property rights already announced by the government, he said.

Mr. Vijayakumar said the formation of the SCIP would also be followed by the constitution of the Kerala Traditional Knowledge Authority (KTKA) and expressed confidence that once these bodies were in place, all matters relating to intellectual property rights would receive the attention they deserved in the State.

Airport

Replying to a submission by V. Surendran Pillai (KC-J), Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said the government was in the process of acquiring 88 acres additionally for expansion of the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. He said the Airport Authority of India (AAI) had been told about the need for more aerobridges when the new terminal became operational .
