Madhupriya clinches javelin gold

Coimbatore: P. Madhupriya of Erode threw the javelin to a distance of 32.45m for the gold in the girls’ section on the opening day of the two-day Promotion of Sports State-level inter-school athletic meet, organised by the Coimbatore wing of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, at the Nehru Stadium here on Thursday.

S.D.B. Poorviha of Virudhunagar stopped the clock at 2:18.5s for the gold in the 800m.

The results:

Boys: 1500m: 1. V. Siva (Tiruchi) 4:14.2s, 2. S. Palaniappan (Sivagangai), 3. V. Velmurugan.

Shot put: 1. R. Deivasigamani (Cuddalore) 13.56m, 2. S.M. Diwahar Raju (Salem), 3. P. Ramanathan (Theni).

Girls: 800m: 1. S.D.B. Poorviha (Virudhunagar) 2:18.5s, 2. R. Pavithra (Tiruvannamalai), 3. P.S. Vinodhini (Erode). Javelin: 1. P. Madhupriya (Erode) 32.45m, 2. G. Srirevathy (Thiruvallur), 3. P. Punitha (Namakkal).

Inter-polytechnic handball

The IPAA Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry Coimbatore division inter-polytechnic collegiate handball tournament, organised by the Sri Ramakrishna Polytechnic College, will be held at its premises from December 15 to 17.

Ball badminton tournament

The R.S. Puram Club will conduct its annual 16th N. Balasubramania Mudaliar Memorial two senior ball badminton fives tournament will be held at the Club courts from December 13 and 14.

Roots and SRM Engineering College (from Chennai), Himalaya Sports Club (Tirupur), Soya Sakthi, Suresh fives, TRC, NBBC (from Coimbatore), KBBC (Komarapalayam), TBBC (Thiruvottiyur) and Devaram Fives (Salem) are the teams that have confirmed participation.

Easy win

At Salem, Rathinagiri (53) and Palani (57) posted half centuries as Prime Cricket Club defeated Sivanthi Adhityan Cricket Club by 123 runs in the Canara Bank-SDCA second division league at the Neelambal grounds recently.

At the Engineering College grounds, S. Ranjith picked five for 17 in Chandramouli Cricket Club’s ten-wicket win over Universal Cricket Club.

The scores: Second division: Prime CC 250 for eight in 40 overs (Rathinagiri 53, Palani 57, Ramesh 43, A. Saravanan four for 62) bt Adhityan CC 127 in 40 overs (Kannan four for 40). Power CC 251 in 45 overs (M. Nowsath 56 not out, M. Saravanan 48) bt Free Birds CC 152 in 45 overs (Gopi 44, M. Saravanan five for 40).

Eagles Eye CC 128 in 42 overs (M. Aslam five for 31) lost to RTP CC 131 for two in 21.3 overs, Universal CC 63 in 40 overs (S. Ranjit five for 17) lost to Chandramouli CC 65 for no loss in 8.5 overs (S. Sakthi 41 not out).

Third division: Talented CC 149 in 45 overs (R. Sakthivel four for 27) bt Government EC CC 80 in 45 overs. Metro CC 163 in 30 overs lost to Montfort CC 164 for seven in 19.1 overs (Palani 50).

Riders blanks Shooters

At Udhagamandalam, Riders Sports Club thrashed Shooters Sports Club 5-0 in the NDFA-Riverside Public School third division football league at the HADP Stadium on Thursday.

Earlier, Ilayabharatham Sports Club and Sporting Union Football played out a 1-1 draw.
