Tamil Nadu struggles

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu was in a spot of bother at 86 for four, in reply to Maharashtra’s 269, on the second day of the under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy match here on Thursday.

Overnight 180 for seven, Maharashtra batting prospered thanks to Rohit Chandra (73) and Ganesh Kukade (79). Their eighth wicket stand of 111 runs was one of the highpoints of the day. Kaushik Gandhi with a five-wicket haul was the pick among the Tamil Nadu bowlers.

Maharashtra’s Jitendra Patil dashed Tamil Nadu’s hopes of a bright start by picking three wickets for 42 runs.

In the other match, Saurashtra, trailing by 296 runs against U.P, was on 33 for one in the second innings at stumps. With contributions from down the order, U.P posted 368 after being 88 for three overnight.

In Bangalore, Shivraj Deshmukh’s four for 23 spell helped Mumbai gain a 66-run first innings lead over Assam on Thursday. At the second day’s close, Mumbai was 12 for no loss in its second innings.

In Visakhapatnam, Rajasthan and Karnataka were comfortably placed against Vidarbha and Andhra respectively.

Awajit Singh scored a century (156, 27 x 4, 1 x 6) in Rajasthan’s first innings total of 359 while Vidarbha’s Virat Kadbe picked up five wickets. Overnight batsman Rahul Bhatkal made 128 (19 x 4) as Karnataka amassed 466 against Andhra.

At Bangalore: Mumbai 277 in 93.2 overs (Kaustub Pawar 59, Sarupam Purkyastha five for 97) and 12 for no loss in eight overs vs Assam 211 in 77.2 overs (Amit Sinha 69, Sarupam Purkyastha 43, Diltesh Saha 42, Shivraj Deshmukh four for 23).

Haryana 351 in 125.3 overs (Yuzuvendra Chahal 135, Kapil Dhaka 98) vs Himachal Pradesh 149 for six in 56 overs (Sumeet Verma 53, Jayant Yadav four for 54).

At Visakhapatnam: Vidharbha 162 and 21 for no loss in nine overs vs. Rajasthan 359 in 110.4 overs (Awajit Singh 156, Ankit Lamba 76, Arjit Gupta 51, Virat Kadbe five for 79).

Karnataka 466 in 153.1 overs (Rahul Bhatkal 128, Mayank Agarwal 111, Pavan U. Deshpande 66, K.L. Rahul 50, Abrar Kazi 40, T.K. Ganesh three for 69) vs. Andhra 86 for two in 27 overs (Ch. Praneeth Kumar 50 batting).
