Educated youth urged to become entrepreneurs

Educated youth, from rural areas, should utilise benefits bestowed by the State government

KARUR: Educated youth, especially from the rural areas, should aspire to become entrepreneurs utilising the numerous benefits the State government was bestowing on the ventures, Collector J. Umamaheswari has said.

Speaking at a function at Minnampalli near here on Thursday, Dr. Umamaheswari said people should fully understand the various benefit, welfare and development schemes the Central and State governments were implementing.

Only then could they make the full use of the schemes. The aim was to take the administration to the doorsteps of the common man that mass contact programmes were being held.

Awareness among women had given a fillip to the self help group movement and that has emboldened them to point out the various inadequacies in public domain.

Similarly, every individual should get educated and keep himself abreast of the recent developments to stay ahead in the competitive world. The youth of the day have largely realised the importance of education and those enlightened youth, especially those in the rural areas, should come forward to start ventures and enterprises. They could do so utilising the enormous support the State and Central governments were extending to those aspirants and ventures, she underlined.

By launching an enterprise, youth could not only sustain themselves but also provide employment to a few more, she observed exhorting the youth to turn entrepreneurs for a bright future. A spirit of give-and-take should prevail among rural and urban populace. On the occasion, Dr. Umamaheswari disbursed government welfare benefits worth Rs. 20.60 lakh to 47 beneficiaries. A total of 51 members from the Narikurava community were given identity cards through the Backward Classes Welfare Department. Karur Panchayat Union Chairperson Valaramathi Chidambaram, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency, S. Namagiri, Project Officer, Mahalir Thittam, S. Ayyaru, Minnampalli Panchayat president Malarvizhi and others spoke.
