Regarding scheme on hawkers’ relocation

CHENNAI: Stating that it was rather distressed to find that the Commissioners of Chennai Corporation and Chennai Police are not acting in a manner to help the Implementation Committee to implement the scheme in relation to hawkers, the Madras High Court has directed the officials to strictly follow the directions given by the committee chairman.

The court also directed them to file an affidavit of compliance, before the court, with the chairman’s directions by December 19.

Passing interim orders on a petition filed by one K. R. Ramaswamy alias ‘Traffic’ Ramaswamy, the First Bench, comprising Chief Justice A. K. Ganguly and Justice K. Chandru, said committee chairman Justice A. Ramamurthi had filed a report in which he had complained of non-cooperation from the two officials.

He had also recommended that certain directions, which he had listed, be issued to them.

The Bench said the committee had been appointed by the orders of the High Court. It said it did not approve of the attitude of the two officials and directed them to strictly follow the chairman’s directions.
