UNVELING: M.K. Stalin, Local Administration Minister, inaugurating schemes in Ramanathapuram district on Friday. RAMANATHAPURAM: The Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi would inaugurate the Ramanathapuram drinking water project in January, said the Minister for Local Administration M.K. Stalin. Speaking at a function organised here on Friday to give away revolving fund to the tune of Rs.18 crore to self-help groups and laid foundation stone for various projects, he said the process of laying pipelines, construction of overhead tanks and other works at a cost of Rs.616 crore scheme had been undertaken swiftly. Though it was felt that it would take at least three years to complete the project, the Chief Minister while laying foundation stone for the much important project at Paramakudi in 2007 directed the officials to complete the works within two years. The officials, who took it as a challenge, had expedited the works. He had reviewed the project several times. The result was that it was to be completed well ahead of two years target. Around 95 per cent of the works was already over. Mr. Stalin added that though the current spell of rain had caused delay in executing the works, officials had been asked to complete them before Pongal so as to start water supply in that period. He said though he had played a crucial role in executing various projects in the State, he felt the Ramanathapuram drinking water project was most satisfying, as it would solve the several decades old drinking water problem faced by the people of the district. Ministers K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, S. Thangavelan, K.R. Periakaruppan, Collector R. Kirlosh Kumar, Additional Collector Pooja Kulkarni, Member of Parliament, Bhavani Rajendran, MLAs K. Hasan Ali, K.
