The accent is on humour

Yeshwant Sirdeshpande to release film soon

Hilarious: A still from ‘Idea Maadyaara’

BANGALORE: He uses the north Karnataka accent to accentuate humour, not to make fun of it, as those who have seen his plays “All the Best”, “Sahi Re Sahi” and the new “Oh Lovve Jeevana Sakshatkara”, will attest.

Yeshwant Sirdeshpande, the director of these three popular plays, is now using the same language flavour in his maiden film, “Idea Maadyaara” (They have come up with an idea). “This is a film about the people of north Karnataka, their land and their language,” he says.

The film is all about the complications faced by an orthodox family and the way they overcome obstacles. “I have tried to convey a social message with an appropriate dose of humour.

This is a new kind of film, different from formula-oriented ones. Similar to my plays, the humour is related to the situation.”

Mr. Sirdeshpande is not new to Kannada films. Among those he has acted in are “Amrutadhare” and Ramesh Arvind’s “Rama Shaama Bhaama”.

In fact, Sirdeshpande jointly wrote the script for “Rama Shaama Bhaama” and even helped Kamal Haasan deliver dialogues in the north Karnataka accent. “I am trying to attract a younger audience, who have not seen my plays. It’s my new venture in the world of humour,” he says. Mr. Sirdeshpande is one of the three producers of the film. The film features four popular television actors: Nagendra Shah, Mr. Sirdeshpande’s wife, Malati, Poorna Chandra Tejaswi and Sunetra Pandit. Among the new faces in the film are the heroine Navyashree and Mr. Sirdeshpande’s daughter, Dosti.

The film was shot in Bellary. The music is by Kiran Godkhindi, brother of flautist Praveen Godkhindi.
