SRM bags silver medal

SRM University team, which won the silver medal in the inter-university chess championship in Malaysia, with Viswanathan Anand.

Chennai: SRM University finished runner-up to Islamic University of Iran in the Rakan Muda GACC International inter-university chess championship held at the University of Malaysia from November 29 to December 5.

SRM defeated the defending champion, Far Eastern University, the Philippines, for the silver medal.

Fortyfive teams competed in the championships. Osmania was the other Indian team that participated in the event.

The SRM team consisted of Arun Karthik, P. Premnath, Arvind Subramaniam, R.K. Ranjith and R. Harini.

Final standings:

1. Islamic Azad University of Iran (30 points), 2.SRM University (25), 3. Far Eastern University, the Philippines (25 points).
