Govt. hospital to have air-conditioned mortuary

NAMAKKAL: The people of Tiruchengode joined hands with the State government to construct a new air-conditioned mortuary for the government hospital in the town.

The existing mortuary is functioning in an old building located outside the hospital premises. The hospital staff and the people are facing difficulties as the building lacked basic facilities.

After the government re-introduced the ‘Namakku Naame’ scheme, people in the town joined hands with the government to build a new mortuary with modern facilities for the hospital. The cost of the project was estimated to be around Rs. 36 lakh.

People along with various institutions and organisations pooled a sum of Rs. 10 lakh.

On hearing the efforts of the people, Collector U. Sagayam sanctioned Rs. 20 lakh under the ‘Namakku Naame’ scheme for the construction. Tiruchengode MLA Thangamani agreed to allot the remaining Rs. 6 lakh from his constituency development fund.

On Saturday, the people handed over their contribution of Rs. 10 lakh to Mr. Sagayam for the project.

District officials said the new facility would come up within the hospital premises. The construction would begin shortly.
