A JOB WELL DONE: Mohammed Kaif (left) and Tanmay Srivastava ensured that Uttar Pradesh was still in with a shot at the first-innings lead against Karnataka. CHENNAI: Mumbai clinched a 315-run victory on the third day of its Ranji Trophy super league cricket match against Orissa at Cuttack on Sunday, bowling the home side out for 118 after setting it a target of 434. Ajinkya Rahane starred with the bat for Mumbai, scoring 201 off just 244 balls to set up a declaration at 361 for five. Rahane put on 173 for the fourth-wicket with skipper Wasim Jaffer, who made 66.
Gujarat claimed a seven-wicket win over Rajasthan at Jaipur after medium-pacer Amit Singh claimed his maiden first class five-wicket haul, a destructive seven for 31 to help dismiss Rajasthan for 186 in its second innings, and set his side a target of just 96. At Ratnagiri, Railways declared its second innings closed at 334 for six to set Maharashtra, which had taken the first innings lead on day two, a target of 303. For Railways, first innings half-centurions Yere Goud and Sanjib Sanyal made 89 and 82 respectively, while Murali Kartik chipped in with a 49-ball 56. Maharashtra went in at stumps at 34 with both openers batting. Uttar Pradesh lost just one wicket on day three against Karnataka at Bangalore as Tanmay Srivastava and Mohammad Kaif went in at close with unbeaten centuries, having put on an unbroken 242-run partnership for the third-wicket. Uttar Pradesh goes into the final day still 216 behind Karnataka’s first innings total of 511, with eight wickets in hand.
