Good response to Exnora’s ‘cool the globe’ concept

Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI: The concept of ‘Cool the globe’ being implemented by the Tiruchi District Exnora has evoked an overwhelming response from individuals and institutions. The concept aims just not at planting saplings but also ensuring the proper growth of trees.

The office-bearers of the Exnora make sure of nominating caretakers before planting the saplings in any residential area. On Saturday, about 20 saplings were planted on the I Cross North Extension in Thillai Nagar, in co-ordination with the Inner Wheel Club of Tiruchi. “We have been getting an overwhelming support from service organisations and institutions, courtesy the growing awareness on global warming,” says the honorary president of Tiruchi District Exnora, G. Subramanian.

This was the second phase of the programme being implemented in the city. In the earlier phase, 10 saplings were planted on the XI Cross East, he said.

The president of the InnerWheel Club of Tiruchi, Vathsala Sridharan, said that the saplings of shade-giving trees were planted. Tree-guards have also been set up for their proper growth.

Mr. Subramanian said that the Exnora would plant saplings in the newly-developed residential colonies, by involving those committed to environmental protection.

Pamphlets were also distributed to the members of the public. It has been planned to plant to 400 saplings in and around the city.
