CHENNAI: A 42-year-old businessman of Kolathur was reportedly abducted and robbed of money by a three-member gang on Saturday. The Kolathur police, who are investigating the case, said that the culprits fled, the moment they saw a police team near a bank in Purasawalkam into which they had sent the victim to withdraw money. The victim is said to have called police control room once inside the bank. The victim, Narayanan of Murugan Nagar, was abducted on Saturday afternoon from his house by the men and taken in a car. “They took him to an ATM in Sriperumbudur and robbed him of Rs.25,000 which they forced him to withdraw from his bank account,” said an investigating officer. Demanding more money, the culprits brought Narayanan to a private bank in Purasawalkam. The victim was threatened to go to the bank and to withdraw a huge sum using a cheque. However, the victim managed to call the police from the bank, the officer said. Following a complaint lodged by Narayanan, a case has been registered and a probe is under way.
