Life convicts to appear for exams

CHENNAI: At least 223 candidates, mostly life convicts lodged in different prisons across the State, will appear for the tenth standard public examination this academic year. Special coaching classes have commenced in prisons in association with NGOs. The Prison Department is proposing to the Department of School Education to conduct the examinations on the prison campuses. “In the Tiruchi central prison alone, 101 inmates will appear for the examination. Many women prisoners are also qualified to write,” Director General of Prisons R. Natraj said on Monday. — Special Correspondent
