Ganguly lauded for landmark judgments

He has disposed of nearly 3,700 main and miscellaneous cases

CHENNAI: Chief Justice of Madras High Court A.K. Ganguly was accorded a farewell on Monday, on his elevation as a Judge of the Supreme Court.

Following the elevation of Mr. Justice Ganguly, Justice S.J. Mukhopadhaya will be the Acting Chief Justice. Mr. Justice Ganguly had been the Chief Justice since June this year. In his farewell address, Advocate-General G. Masilamani said that in his judicial pronouncements, Mr. Justice Ganguly had ensured that the law should not lose its social relevance. He also cited the landmark judgments delivered by the outgoing Chief Justice. During his tenure, the Chief Justice had disposed of nearly 3,700 main and miscellaneous cases at the principal seat and on the Madurai Bench.

Mr. Masilamani said there was a cordial relationship between the Bench and the Bar.

Mr. Justice Ganguly said that during his tenure, he had tried to initiate some development in the High Court. He had done it as objectively as possible, with a sense of commitment and dedication. There were many more areas calling for development, he said.
