Dinesh stars for Coimbatore Friends

Coimbatore: Leg-spinner K.R. Dinesh picked up six for 25 in Coimbatore Friends Cricket Club’s 106-run win over Arumugam XI Patriots Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-CDCA second division league at the TNAU grounds here on Sunday. C.R. Anandashankar (80) and K. Thyagu (65) too chipped in for the winner.

Earlier, Best VP XI notched up an eight-wicket win over ABT Cricket Club.

The scores: Second division: Tirupur CC 242 in 47.1 overs (Mohan Kumar 58) bt Tirupur Textiles RC 172 in 46.5 overs; ABT CC 39 in 21.3 overs lost to Best VP XI 40 for two in 7.1 overs; Coimbatore Friends CC 270 in 48.5 overs (C.R. Anandashankar 80, K. Thyagu 65) bt Arumugam XI Patriots CC 164 in 27.1 overs (R. Arun 67, K.R. Dinesh six for 25).

Chess tournament

The Indian Chess Academy, affiliated to the Coimbatore District Chess Association, will conduct a one-day tournament for various age group categories at the Chandoo M.M.A. Chinnappa Devar Thirumana Mandapam, near Olympus, on December 21.

Kiruthika selected

A. Kiruthika, a class seven student of AVB Matriculation School, will take part in the under-14 category in the National-level gymnastics, organised by the School Games Federation of India, at Andhra Pradesh from December 25 to 30.

Prior to the competition, the team will attend a training camp at the Lakshmi Loganathan MHS in Arcot from December 17.

Rainbow FC wins

At Udhagamandalam, Rainbow Football Club, with 25 points from nine matches, sealed the top spot in the NDFA-Riverside Public School third division league, which concluded at the HADP Stadium on Sunday.

Sand Rock Sports Club (19 pts) and Riders Sports Club (18 pts) took the next two places respectively.

Final standings (top five only): 1. Rainbow FC 25 pts, 2. Sand Rock SC 19, 3. Riders SC 18, 4. Yankees SC 17, 5. Ilayabharatham SC 11.

NDFA second division

The NDFA second division league will be held at the HADP Stadium from December 17 to January 4. Twelve teams have confirmed participation.

Prasath hits century

Prasath struck a fine 110 as Kasturi Pillai Sports Club scored an 87-run win over TUG Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-SDCA first division league at the Neelambal School grounds at Salem on Sunday.

The scores: First division: Kasturi Pillai SC 235 for nine in 42 overs (Prasath 110) bt TUG CC 148 in 26.3 overs (Venkatesh four for 28); Writer Ramasamy MCC 167 in 41 overs (Murugasivam 46) bt Gopalan MCC 90 in 24 overs (Nallathambi four for 23).

Second division: Rajagopalan MCC 93 in 41 overs (Riyaz five for 19) lost to Maratha CC 94 for seven in 25.1 overs; Salvo CC 207 for seven in 38 overs lost to Dirty Dozen CC 211 for six in 34.3 overs.
