KARAIKUDI: The 20th convocation of the Alagappa University will be held on December 24, according to Vice-Chancellor P. Ramasamy. Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, he said that Governor Surjit Singh Barnala would preside over the function. Minister for Higher Education K. Ponmudy would deliver special address. T. Ramasamy, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, would deliver the convocation address. Mr. Ramasamy said that 1066 regular students from the university departments and constituent colleges, 4590 students from the affiliated colleges, 758 students from the collaborative programmes and 28269 students from the distance education would receive their degrees. E. Ilamathian, Registrar, said that 164 students, including 78 Ph.D. research scholars and 10 M.Phil. scholars would also be awarded degrees. Similarly, 26 gold medallists of the Post Graduate departments of the university and 38 rank holders from affiliated colleges and 12 rank holders from collaborative programmes would also receive their degrees from the Governor.
