Cashew Bhavan nearing completion

Special Correspondent

KOCHI: The laboratory of the Cashew Export Promotion Council, presently accommodated in a rented building in Kollam, will be shifted to the Cashew Bhavan, a new building under construction there.

The construction of the building will be over within a few months, council chairman P. Bharathan Pillai said. The matter was discussed at an extraordinary general meeting of the Cashew Export Promotion Council of India held here on Tuesday.

The meeting was convened amidst speculation on the shifting of the council office to Kollam.

Mr. Bharathan Pillai said the present office in Kochi would continue to function till a decision to the contrary was taken.

The Centre had proposed formation of a cashew development board on the lines of commodity boards for rubber, spices and coconut. As the location was not specified, there was lobbying to establish it in Kollam. Speculation on the shifting of the council office too had come up in this background.
