Rotary award for outstanding service in eye care for the poor

Medical officers receive Vocational Excellence Awards for their work

Tirupur: The Rotary Club of Udumalpet conferred the ‘For the Sake of Honour award’, highest award offered by Rotary Clubs, on Aravind Eye Care Systems in recognition of its outstanding services in the field of ophthalmology and free eye care to poor people.

Award

The award was received by the chairman and vice chairperson of Aravind Eye Care Systems, P. Namperumalsamy and G. Natchiar, respectively, from the former Director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), D. R. Karthikeyan, at a function that was organised for the purpose at G.V.G. Auditorium in Udumalpet near here on Wednesday.

Service

The Rotary Club also distributed ‘Vocational Excellence Awards’ to V. Narendran and Kalpana Narendran, chief medical officer and senior medical officer of Aravind Eye Hospital, Coimbatore, respectively, in order to recognise them for their humanitarian service to the poor.

While Dr.Narendran was chosen for the devoted care provided to patients who suffered from retinal and vitreous disorders, Dr. Kalpana bagged the award for her expertise in cataract and squint corrective surgeries.

R Vivekanandhon and S.K.Venkatesh, president and secretary of Rotary Club of Udumalpet, were present at the function organised to distribute the awards to those who had been selected.
