KRISHNAGIRI: Uthankarai selection grade town panchayat chairperson M. Jayalakshmi has reiterated her demand for constructing a check dam on Palar and cleaning of wells and ponds. Talking to reporters at Uthankarai on Thursday, she said a proposal in this regard was pending with the Assistant Director (Panchayat). An appeal was also made to Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin during his visit to Krishnagiri recently. She said that she would be meeting Mr. Stalin and the Director of Panchayat Administration and urge them to speed up the process. She said a solid waste management system was implemented on 2.94-acre plot at Sunnalamapatti village. A natural manure plant was also set up on this plot at a cost of Rs. 2.65 lakh. A store-room was also constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.18 lakh. She added that construction of a vermicompost plant was under progress at a cost of Rs. 10 lakh. Bargur Town Panchayat chairman Senthamarai Balan told the Collector, V.K. Shanmugam, who had come to inspect the solid waste management system at Bargur that subsidy for about 40 toilets built under the total sanitation campaign was not disbursed for a long time.
