TIRUCH: Students of the Government College of Physiotherapy here observed a token fast on Thursday urging the State government to implement their charter of demands. Over 100 students took part in the fast which was organised within the institution’s premises at Periamilaguparai. The students urged the government to permanently post a Physiotherapist as the College Principal besides appointing a Chief Physiotherapist for the institution. They also urged for appointing Clinical Physiotherapists to treat out-patients and appealed for posting Professors, Lecturers and Tutors, Psychologist and Sociologist on a permanent basis as per University guidelines. They also sought the creation of necessary infrastructure facilities in the institution as the question papers were to be posted online for the examination to be conducted in February. The students also demanded construction of separate class rooms for them since there was only one classroom for 116 students. Starting of Master of Physiotherapy course in the Government College of Physiotherapy at Chennai and Tiruchi from the next academic year and vesting powers solely with the Physiotherapists while creating the Tamil Nadu State Council for Physiotherapists were the other demands of the students. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
