Pongal dhoti scheme launch on January 1

CHENNAI: The free dhoti and sari scheme for Pongal will be launched by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on January 1, according to Handlooms Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandaran.

Inaugurating a Co-optex exhibition here on Thursday, he said about 160 lakh dhotis and saris, procured at a total cost of Rs.256 crore, would be distributed. The dhotis and saris meant for the distribution were being despatched to the district administrations since Monday, he said.
