CHENNAI: An expert committee, constituted to look into the matter of erroneous questions in Group-I preliminary examinations of the TNPSC, has declared 25 more candidates successful.

However, it has not prepared a comprehensive revised list.

Consequently, two of the candidates who had not earlier qualified in the preliminaries have made it to the selection list of the main examination.

The Group-I examinations are conducted by the TNPSC to select officials, including Deputy Collector and Deputy Superintendent of Police.

According to the TNPSC website, as per the original list, both these successful candidates (register numbers 00411120 and 00177052) had secured 178.5, while the general cut off mark was 210.

“We had allowed 131 candidates, who had filed a writ alleging wrong question in the prelims, to appear for the main examination on the direction of the High Court of Madras,” said TNPSC Chairman A.M. Kasiviswanathan. “The committee has selected 25 among the 131 candidates.”

Mr. Kasiviswanathan said the commission had evaluated the main exam answer papers of 25 candidates, who had earlier not cleared the prelims, based on the revised cut-off marks. Out of these 25 candidates, two have been selected for interview. The TNPSC is yet to reveal the revised cut-off marks to the candidates.

“As many questions and options provided in the preliminary exams were allegedly wrong some candidates had sought the intervention of the High Court,” said D. Ganesh a candidate.

“If there is enough proof of wrong questions, the right way would have been a revised list or conducting the exam again as happened in 1999,” said R. Deva, a candidate.
