‘Show greater emphasis on employment needs’

Pollachi: Researches and engineering advancements should focus on the uplift of humanity with higher impetus for agricultural enhancements, food processing, irrigation, spinning mills and power stations, said N. Mahalingam, Chairman of Sakthi Group of Companies and Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology (MCET).

He was speaking at the inauguration of the International Conference on “Recent Trends in Materials and Mechanical Engineering” (ICME 2008) organised by the Dr.Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology on Thursday.

Mr. Mahalingam said that the growth achieved today was directly proportional to the needs of political, defence and industrial segments.

He stressed the need for showing greater emphasis on employment needs of the country besides development of innovations.

Dr. Digvir S Jayas, Association Vice-President (Research) University of Manitoba, Canada inaugurated the conference. Shankar Vanavarayar, Correspondent of MCET and Chief Executive of Sakthi Textiles, I. Rajendran, Organising Secretary of the conference, S. Vijayarangan, Chairman of the Conference Committee, V.V. Sreenarayanan, Co-Chairman of ICMEE, S.R. Palanisamy, convener of ICMEE spoke.
