Gold seized from woman passenger

CHENNAI: Customs officials at the Chennai Anna international terminal seized 923 gm gold, valued at Rs.13.04 lakh, from a woman passenger who arrived from Sri Lanka on Friday.

An official release stated that 44-year-old woman was intercepted on suspicion. A search led to recovery of a crude gold chain and six crude gold bangles worn by her. The passenger has been arrested.

This is the second instance within a month where attempt by Sri Lankan nationals to smuggle gold through the Chennai airport was foiled. — Special Correspondent
