Health-conscious: Visitors throng the stall offering blood sugar tests at an exhibition on diabetes in Chennai on Saturday. CHENNAI: A festive atmosphere fills Raja Muthiah and Rani Meyyammai Halls in the city where an exhibition on diabetes, organised by Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre is on till Sunday. The venue has been divided into three sections: the first providing an overview of the condition; the second outlining the diet; and the third hosting lectures and stalls with pharmaceutical products. On Saturday, the exhibition received hundreds of visitors. Many of them queued up at stalls for testing blood sugar, fixing appointments with doctor and registering for further tests. The footwear stall was much sought after. R. Ramadas (76), a resident of Maduravoyal, bought a pair of shoes. “I am happy to be here. They [the organisers] are doing a good thing,” he said. At the stress management stall, psychologist S. Poongothai remained busy. “We teach simple exercises that can be done when you are sitting in the office or waiting to clear a signal on the road,” she said. In the Secret Home Diet, nutritionist Saroja Raghavan offered nutritious menu ideas and in the children’s room there were fun games on the value of eating vegetables. At the lecture hall, scores of people participated in an interactive session with diabetologist V. Mohan. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
