Woman arrested for job racket

CHENNAI: The Central Crime Branch police on Sunday arrested and remanded to custody Sharmila (53) on charges of cheating a person with promises of job offers in Canada.

A sum of Rs. 15,000 and gold jewellery were recovered. Police are in search of her son and son-in-law, who are also involved in the job racket.

According to police, the accused was a Sri Lankan, settled in Canada and Canadian citizen. She was nabbed at a hotel in the city when she arrived to collect money for processing visa. Enquiries revealed that Sharmila allegedly cheated Kuladeepan, a Sri Lankan Tamil, of Rs. 6.18 lakh. She had also cheated a person in Bangalore and taken Rs. 6 lakh from him, with promises of getting a job.

The Crime Branch police conducted the investigation following a complaint made by a victim .
