VIZIANAGARAM: A.P. Agriculture Workers’ Union on Monday staged protest demonstration at the Collector’s Office demanding that the Government begin the suspended NREGP in the district immediately and provide 100 days’ work to agriculture labour. Union State vice-president R. Kuppa Naidu and secretary P. Muralikrishna said that the legislation enacted in 2005 made provision of jobs for 100 days to rural poor mandatory but the State Government had suspended the programme and diverted funds for the benefit of Congress workers. They said that the union staged dharnas at all mandal offices on October 24 and submitted a list comprising names of 995 people from 513 villages in the district seeking jobs under the programme. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
