Lions Club International gives away awards

‘Recognition will help build relationships’

Awards will promote service mindedness: District Governor


Udhagamandalam: “We serve and we encourage others to serve”. In keeping with this motto the District Chairperson, Lions Clubs International (District 324-B1) N. Krishnamurthi organised a function here on Saturday to give away awards to people who had made a mark for themselves either on the professional front or in activities which were close to their heart.

Explaining the objectives, Mr. Krishnamurthi told The Hindu that when the contributions of such persons were recognised publicly not only were they motivated to take more interest in what they were doing but others also developed an interest in contributing their mite for public good. It also helped build relationships. Participating as the chief guest the Lions District Governor, A. Ashok Shanmugasundaram, said that since Lions International was a service oriented organisation, it strove to promote service mindedness. The Vice District Governor, R. Nandabalan, said that during the coming year the people of the Nilgiris can look forward to some useful projects.

Recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award M. Jeevanandham said that the Nilgiris which has for long been close to his heart will continue to benefit from his largesse. Leading gynaecologist Indira Nambiar who received the award under the Health Care category underscored the need improve infrastructural facilities on the medical front. Senior Advocate and green campaigner B.J. Krishnan who was recognised for his efforts to enhance awareness about the environment emphasised the need to check environmental degradation.

V.A.Ramalingam acknowledged the opportunity provided to him by Lions International to help the poor and needy.
