Avinash sparkles for SRMSC

Coimbatore: A. Avinash hit 100 as Sri Ramakrishna Mills Sports Club (SRMSC) defeated Rainbow Cricket Club by 86 runs in the Canara Bank-CDCA first division league at the SNR Sons College grounds here on Sunday.

After posting 286 for eight, SRMSC bundled out its opponent for 200. U. Sathish (64) top-scored for Rainbow.

The scores:

First division (Pricol Trophy): Sri Ramakrishna Mills SC 286 for eight in 50 overs (A. Avinash 100) bt Rainbow CC 200 in 47.2 overs (U. Sathish 64).

Second division (Unidriveline Trophy): Friends RC 90 in 27.5 overs (Jai Anand six for 27, Arumugapandi four for 23) lost to Suryabala Cricketers 92 for three in 18.1 overs (Hasif 43).

Third division (Servall Trophy): Lucky Youngstars CC 178 in 46.5 overs lost to PSG Tech 180 for four in 30.3 overs (Mariappan 53 n.o.); Rainbow Jeeva CC 216 for eight in 50 overs (Manikandan 72) lost to SIM CC 218 for eight in 33.3 overs (Ashok Kumar 79, Praveen Kumar 41).

Fourth division (Tirupur Textiles Trophy): SNR Sons College 142 in 49.2 overs (Karthikeyan 52, Murugesh Karupuswamy four for 23) lost to Cosmo Village SA ‘B’ 143 for five in 41.5 overs.

Meenatchi triumphs

L. Meenatchi Sundaram clinched the Open title in the Indian Chess Academy one-day tournament at the Chandoo M.M.A. Chinnappa Devar Thirumana Mandapam on Sunday.

State-level football

The 18th State-level inter-collegiate football tournament for men for the PSG Trophy, organised by the PSG College of Arts and Science, will be held at the PSG CAS grounds from January 5 to 9 next.

Nirmal’s efforts in vain

Nirmal Karthik’s (80 & five for 29) all-round show went in vain as Venkatramana Cricket Club notched up a two-wicket win over Vampire Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-SDCA first division league at the Neelambal School grounds, Salem on Sunday.

First division: Vampire CC 205 in 41 overs (Nirmal Karthik 80) lost to Venkatramana CC 206 for eight in 36 overs (R. Vasanthraj 58, Nirmal Karthik five for 29).

Blue Star CC 182 in 45 overs bt Tigers XI 129 in 45 overs (R. Sivakumar four for 29).

Second division: Jaganathan MCC 263 for four in 40 overs (Ambeshwaran 114, D. Iyyapan 41) bt Sunil CC 217 for nine in 40 overs (Raja 52 n.o.).

Dirty Dozen CC 160 in 40 overs (A. Prakash 55, Kannan 41, Venkatesan five for 21) bt Sivanthi Adityan CC 43 in 40 overs (A. Prakash five for 10, Sulthan five for 20).
Bharath CC posts win

Bharath Cricket Club (Namakkal) defeated Masters Cricket Club (Tiruchengodu) by 47 runs in the Canara Bank-DCAN second division league at the ICL Colony grounds, Namakkal on Sunday.

Bharath CC (Namakkal) 189 in 39 overs bt Masters CC (Tiruchengodu) 142 in 32.5 overs (Rajeevan 65).

Leela Memorial CC (Namakkal) 107 in 22 overs lost to AVM CC (Pallipalayam) 108 for eight in 23 overs (Sateesh four for 32).
