Periyar varsity retains title

Salem: Defending champion Periyar University maintained a clean league slate and emerged the winner of the South-West Zone inter-varsity football tournament for women at the varsity grounds here on Tuesday.

In its last league encounter, the host, thanks to Mahalakshmi’s stunning first half effort, notched up a solitary goal win over Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University for the title.

Periyar 1 bt TNPESU 0, Madurai Kamaraj 5 bt Goa University 1.

Periyar 1 bt Madurai Kamaraj 0, TNPESU 0 drew with Goa University 0.
