Arcot Veeraswami files nomination papers Nomination for Karunanidhi as president filed
M. K. Stalin CHENNAI: The stage is set for the elevation of Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin as the treasurer of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam with the filing of nomination papers on his behalf for the post. Among those who filed the papers was Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veeraswami, the present treasurer of the party. Nominations on behalf of Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi and Finance Minister K.Anbazhagan were filed for the post of president and general secretary respectively. The filing of nominations for four audit committee members also began on Wednesday. The last day for filing nominations is December 26. Normally nominations are filled by all the district units of the party. The DMK has 33 district units. The election will be held on December 27 when the general council meets. As per the party election rules every nomination should be proposed and seconded by five general council members. No nomination was filed on the behalf of Mr. Veeraswami, who has been functioning as the party treasurer since 1993. He, however, filed nominations for Mr. Karunanidhi, Mr. Anbazhagan and Mr. Stalin, who is the deputy general secretary of the party.
