“Cater to changing needs”

TIRUCHI: To infuse global level competency, educational institutions have to remove knowledge obsolescence from time to time and provide the right kind of education along with values, G. Srinivas, Deputy Secretary, University Grants Commission, South Eastern Regional Office, Hyderabad, said.

While the gap between education and employment has narrowed sharply, the Government is no longer the major source of employment. With self-employment, entrepreneurship and private sector employment on the rise, educational institutions must help students to progress academically with an understanding of the global implications, Dr. Srinivas said addressing the Graduation Day for students of Government-aided courses at Jamal Mohamed College.

Educational institutions also have to cater to the changing needs of students. Students should be equipped to face challenges with confidence. “Do not go for short success which will have the shortest life,” he advised.
