Olympian Mewalal dead

Kolkata: Two-time Olympian Sahu Mewalal, who guided India to the 1951 Asian Games title with his solitary goal, died at the SSKM Hospital here late on Friday night.

He was 82 and is survived by 64-year-old wife Laxmi Devi Lal, a son and two daughters.

The funeral was held at Kalighat on Saturday and a small procession went through his former clubs Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, Aryans Club and BNR. — PTI
