Ashok Todi hospitalised

Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: Ashok Todi, one of the seven persons chargesheeted by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the unnatural death of his son-in-law, computer graphics teacher Rizwanur Rahman, was on Saturday admitted to the SSKM hospital, the State’s referral hospital.

Mr.Todi faces the charge of abetting the suicide of his son-in-law, whose body was found on the railway tracks on September 21, 2007, days after his marriage to Priyanka Todi. He has been in custody since his surrender on December 1, 2008 following a court direction.

Earlier attempts by Mr.Todi to get admitted had failed as the hospital said that it had no beds to admit him. He had complained of respiratory and cardiac problems. His admission on Saturday came after he complained of severe low back pain.

Rizwanur’s death had led to a public outcry. The State government took action against five police officers, including the then commissioner, Prasun Mukherjee, following allegations of their involvements in the events leading to the death.
