BAC emerges overall champion

MYSORE: Basvanagudi Aquatic Centre, with a big tally of 1,031 points emerged as the overall champion in the State short-course swimming championship which concluded at De Paul International School pool here onmonday. But in the sweepstake for individual honours, K.C. Reddy Centre gave BAC a close run with Aditya Roshan and Akash Rohit claiming the individual champion titles in Group I and II respectively.

It was particularly a good day for Akash Rohit as he swept to threemore golds on the final day winning the 25m freestyle, 50m breast stroke and 200m breaststroke events. In the 200m breaststroke, Rohit notched up a newmark, clocking 2:38.43s (old: 3:00.76s). S.V. Sumkuh of BAC andmd. Yaqoob Saleem of P.M. Swim Centre, emerged as individual champions in Group III and IV respectively.

In the girls’ section,madhavi Giri logged 193 points to take the Group I title and she also won the 50m backstroke, with a newmeet record of 33.47s (old: 33.66s) and gold in 200m individualmedley. T. Sneha of BAC, with 192 points pipped teammate, Bhoomi R.motwani to the post in race for Group II title, though Bhoomi came up with an inspired display to set a new record in the 200m breaststroke (2:59.52s) and a gold in the 50m breaststroke. Thulasi R. Haritsa of BAC (Group III) and Damini K. Gowda of BAC (Group IV) were the other individual champions in girls’ section.
