Driver killed as oil tanker overturns

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: An oil tanker overturned and caught fire while negotiating a turn at India Gate hexagon here on Monday. The driver of the tanker was killed in the fire.

The tanker overturned near Bikaner House around midnight and caught fire. The charred body of the driver was found inside the cab after the fire was doused. “We received a call at 12-05 a.m. and three fire tenders were rushed to the spot. It took them more than an hour to douse the flames. A Tata Indigo car of the Rajasthan Government and parked nearby was also burnt,” said a Delhi Fire Service official.

“The tanker was registered with the Gurgaon transport authorities. A team has been sent to Gurgaon to look for the owner of the vehicle who can help us identify the deceased. It seems the tanker was half-filled with oil and heading towards a petrol pump in South Delhi,” said a senior police officer.
