Walk your way to health and prizes

VISAKHAPATNAM: Visakha Walkers’ Association will conduct a beach road walk from Visakhapatnam to Bheemunipatnam (Bhimili) on Sunday.

Announcing this at a media conference here on Tuesday, honorary president P.N. Murthy and president Suresh Babu said that the 26-km walk up to Bhimili was an annual event of the association to create awareness on health, environment and road safety. This was the fifth time the event would be held and about 250 to 300 enthusiasts were expected to participate in the walk which would begin at 5.30 a.m.

There would be prizes for different age groups and prizes for all participants above 70 years.

The walk event for women and children would be only ten km. up to Rishikonda from where they would be picked up in buses and taken to the end point where prizes would be given away, Lata Das of the organisers said. There is no entry fee and special buses were being arranged for the convenience of the participants to return to the city after the event, she said.Mr. Suresh Kumar who owns the Bhuvaneswari paints and hardware shop is the main sponsor while SK travels was a regular cosponsor. HPCL had come forward with a Rs.10,000 donation to the event while the Deputy Transport Commissioner would also cosponsor the programme. Senior walker Lt. Sriramulu was present.
