Yeddyurappa orders transfer of Mandya Deputy Commissioner, SP

Bangalore: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Tuesday ordered the immediate transfer of Deputy Commissioner of Mandya Mohan Chakravarthy and Superintendent of Police Manish Moudgil, after BJP workers went on a rampage and roughed up G. Made Gowda. In a press release issued by the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, the transfer of the two senior district officials has been ordered so that an impartial and smooth inquiry can be conducted into the incident.

Regional Commissioner M.V. Jayanthi has been asked to conduct an inquiry and submit a report to the State Government.

The former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna has condemned the incident. He said that it was an attempt to criminalise politics with anti-social elements attempting to terrorise law-abiding citizens. Mr. Made Gowda, he said was a senior leader and veteran politician, who could have his own preferences in electoral politics. Mr. Krishna demanded that the anti-social elements be brought to book.

Medical Education Minister Ramachandra Gowda, who is in-charge of Mandya district also condemned the attack on Mr. Made Gowda. He said that he had ordered the district officers to initiate action against the persons responsible.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) also condemned the attack on Mr. Made Gowda.

A press release from the CPI (M) said that “attacking the party leader shows that the Bharatiya Janata Party has no belief in democracy.”
