NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro railway will observe a safety awareness week with focus on elevators and escalators beginning January 1. During the week, commuters will be guided on safe use of elevators and escalators at all the Delhi Metro stations. “Eighty volunteers of the Scouts and Guides along with the metro staff will make commuters aware and inform them about the safe use of escalators and elevators at all metro stations during the week,” said a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation release on Wednesday. Informative material such as leaflets will be distributed among the commuters and posters and banners will be displayed at the metro stations. A safety seminar will be organised on January 6 as part of the safety week. “At present, 167 elevators and an equal number of escalators are operational at the metro stations. Another 301 elevators and 219 escalators are planned to be installed in Phase II. Additional elevators and escalators are proposed for the Rajiv Chowk, New Delhi, Chandni Chowk and Chawri Bazar metro stations,” the release said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
