A rare celestial conjunction

New Delhi: A rare celestial conjunction of Venus and crescent Moon on Wednesday rung out 2008 providing a spectacular show for star gazers across the country.

“The conjunction started after the sunset and was visible to the naked eye. The Moon formed the spectacular conjunction with Venus also known as Goddess of love,” Science Popularisation Association of Communicators and Educators (SPACE) President C.B. Devgun told PTI.

In Western countries, the conjunction is best visible at 3 a.m. The rare phenomenon of the two brightest objects in the night sky, Venus and Moon, could be seen through city lights and even fireworks. — PTI
