NEW DELHI: Tarun Sangha drew 1-1 with G4S-Hindustan Club in Group ‘B’ preliminary league matches of the Delhi Soccer Association annual senior division open clubs league championship at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Wednesday. Both teams played an attacking game and initiated good moves right through the match but wasted the chances that came their way. Hindustan’s hard working Mohinder got two opportunities but he fumbled near the rival goal even as Tarun Sangha defenders Shankho Kolay and Tarun Prasad defended firmly. On changing ends, both teams tested each other’s strength but failed to score until the 75th minute when Hindustan’s medio Sovan Dass scored in a goalmouth melee. The lead for Hindustan Club lasted seven minutes as Tarun Sangha’s Nigerian striker Henry equalised, again in a melee. Tarun Sanha now has four points from two matches while Hindustan has one from one. Earlier, last year’s runner-up Indian National rallied to hold five times champion Shastri Club 1-1. In a well contested encounter, Shastri Club took the lead in the 33rd minute through K.C Ngaihte. Nationals equalised 20 minutes later through Lepcha. Nationals has four points from two matches while Shastri has two points from as many matches. — Special Correspondent © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
