To be commissioned during next financial year

Tirupur: The 15 Velampalayam municipal administration has decided to entrust the construction of the new municipal office complex planned at an outlay of Rs. 50 lakh to a Tirupur-based company.

Two bids

The decision was taken after a deliberation on the two bids received through a tender procedure for the execution of the project, at an emergency municipal council meeting held on Tuesday evening.

S.P. Mani, chairman, 15 Velampalayam municipality, told The Hindu that the work on the new building, to be established at Sandhaipettai, was expected to commence soon after Pongal.

The edifice would be commissioned during the next financial year (2009-10).

“Of the total expenditure, Rs. 30 lakh will be obtained as grant from the corpus created by the State Government under Part-II scheme and the rest from the municipal exchequer,” Mr. Mani said.

80 cents

The building, coming up on an 80-cent plot, would house the offices of the Chairman, Executive Officer, rooms for town planning department and sanitary inspectors, a tax collection centre and a visitors lounge. The council had also resolved to establish the treatment plant envisaged for the proposed underground sewerage scheme, in Ward 2 limits.

Survey

The TWAD Board would soon carry out a preliminary survey in the municipal limits to arrive at the estimate of the project.

A. Shanmugam, executive officer, and V.R. Malligai, municipal engineer, were present.
