10-year imprisonment for extremist

ARIYALUR: An extremist of the banned ‘Tamil Viduthalai Iyakkam,’ Kumaresan (34), who was accused of lobbing bombs on a police team engaged in vehicle-checks at Andimadam in 2005, was slapped with a 10-year imprisonment in the Ariyalur Court on Wednesday.

The team had intercepted Kumaresan while he was travelling in a motorcycle and found bombs in his possession. During interrogation, he was said to have made a futile bid to escape after hurling a bomb. — Staff Reporter
