Viva Kerala in final

KOCHI: Viva Kerala defeated Malabar United by a lone goal and entered the final of the Bhagat Soccer Cup all-Kerala football tournament at the Maharaja’s Stadium here on Thursday evening.

Sabeeth nets winner

C.S. Sabeeth scored the match-winner in the second minute after being fed by Shibin Lal. But the Kochi-based Viva Kerala should have gone home a bigger winner. The team missed many chances and its Sakeer muffed a penalty late in the first half.

“We should have won by four or five goals but the boys are mostly inexperienced. They are still a learning lot,” said A.M. Sreedharan, the Viva coach. — Principal Correspondent
