Elephant herd sighted at Karattumedu

Staff Reporter

Coimbatore: A herd of three elephants, including a calf, that strayed into human habitations at Karattumedu near Saravanampatti caused commotion and flutter.

They reportedly got separated from a herd of 11 and lost their way during a migratory movement.

On instructions from the Conservator of Forests, Coimbatore Circle, R. Kannan, and District Forest Officer, I. Anwardeen, a special team was deputed to put the herd back into its migratory track in the reserve forests.

The team led by Forest Veterinarian, Dr. N.S. Manoharan, and Range Officers have mobilised men and material to chase the herd back. The process is likely to be over by Friday.
