Student commits suicide

TAMBARAM: A second year medical college student committed suicide at her house in Balaji Nagar in Perungalathur, near Tambaram, on Thursday.

Police said that S.Vishnuvardhini (19), studying at Chengalpattu Medical College, was living with her parents in Perungalathur. Along with her parents, she would visit Puducherry every year on the New Year day. This year, she refused to come saying that she had to prepare for her examinations. Her refusal resulted in a quarrel.

After her parents left for Puducherry, Vishnuvardhini hanged herself to death .

Woman sets herself ablaze

A 28-year-old woman, who quarrelled with her husband for coming late on Wednesday night, committed suicide by setting herself ablaze at her house in Tirusulam.

Susheela and Shanmugham hailed from Tiruchi and were working in a stone quarry in Tirusulam. Shanmugham returned home late on Wednesday night, resulting in a quarrel between the couple, following which the woman set herself afire.

Man dies in cylinder explosion

A 61-year-old man succumbed to burns he sustained in an accident at a welding shop in Anakaputhur on Wednesday.

According to sources, a gas cylinder exploded, injuring the staff at the shop. Arumugham was seriously injured and rushed to a hospital nearby. He was pronounced dead on arrival.
