CHENNAI: With the last date to apply for the Civil Services Examination of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and the Group-I Services Examination of the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) fast approaching, candidates have started thronging the designated post offices here.

As the application forms of the UPSC and the TNPSC are available in the designated post offices in the city, the aspirants of the All India Services, Central Group-A Services and the Group-I Services of Tamil Nadu, are found in large numbers in post offices to purchase the application forms.

The UPSC application forms are available at Chennai GPO and at the Anna Road, St. Thomas Mount, T. Nagar and Tambaram head post offices. The candidates are required to pay the fee for the civil services examination through a Central Recruitment Fee stamp and get it cancelled at the designated post offices. The last date to send the applications to UPSC, New Delhi, is January 5, and the rush at the eleventh hour is expected to increase, say officials. The last date for applying for the TNPSC is January 22.

“This is a rare occasion in which the candidates have the opportunity of applying for both the top examinations conducted by these constitutional bodies,” said S. Saravanakumaran, an aspirant. With Chennai emerging as an important centre of preparing for the gruelling competitive examinations in the country, graduates have started to make use of the facilities available.
